Well I have been a busy bee of late! Everything here I’ve done in the past month or so. I’m planning to be more active with personal art and art in general.
Wow pretend this isn’t super half-assed looking okay
This is Leurer he is from yet another plotbunny
He is stuck with a bunch of other mers in this bigass floating mechanical city powered by a fire so hot it burns invisible
tell me that’s not some badass shit right there
They were actually trapped in the city hundreds of years ago no one knows how/why
but they hang out in the channels of the city and eat humans that fall in cause they’re hungry and the only other stuff around are these bigass catfish mutants that are super hard to kill, tuna that are fed anti-merperson poison, barnacles, some crabs, and the occasional stupid seagull
they’re hungry a lot
but still p intelligent though most humans think they’re animal dumb(not that animals are actually dumb but you get me)
They never speak to humans because they believe humans will steal their voices and use them to lure them into the Teeth, which are these big mashers in the veeerrrryyy bottom of the city channels that grind up stuff to prevent it from getting sucked in and jammed in the city’s inner workings that keep it moving(they actually also have nets down there to catch anything big enough like food or also merpeople, and they experiment on them and stuff)
Over time the merpeople have evolved skin colour camouflage to match the bronze and brass machinery of the city, two legs and a smaller tail in place of one big tail, they can technically walk on land but they feel really heavy because there’s no water to buoy them up so they tend to feel like their lungs are being crushed until they get used to it
they can stay out as long as their gills stay wet enough, like horseshoe crabs
Leurer is albino, so his camouflage is nonexistent and his claws for luring and hooking fish are soft and useless. The others hate him based on a superstition that albinos are the ghosts of mers left behind or lost to the deeps of the ocean, come to drag other mers down with them or feast on their flesh in hopes of returning to life. No one really believes that anymore but the fear is still there and he’s useless in a function-driven society so no one wants him around and they tend to try to starve him. He survives off their barest scraps, and if they catch him at it they chase him off.
He and the heroine meet when he tries to drown her so he can eat her
It’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship
THADD DRAWS MERBOYS AND ALSO PLOTBUNNYS
WELP this monsterboy with the cute little wing sacs in his back is named Sirran. He’s a watchman for Edgeville which is a great big sprawling mess of a city that sprang up on the fissure in the planet between where Earth world collided with Erth, a parallel universe full of all the creatures we call mythical. The two planets now hang together in space, held together and kept in harmony(to prevent all the massive planetary forces like magnetic fields, magma layers, tectonic plates, etc etc, from exploding) by magic. And on the dividing chasm between the worlds sprawls, hangs, and climbs a city that has become a haven for magical creatures, particularly outcasts, mutts, and criminals.
Sirran is a mutt. He’s half incubus, which is not a demon in Erth, but a type of goblin. With a very hyperactive sex drive. Since Sirran is half something-else(he won’t say what) he actually does not appreciate this at all and goes to great lengths to suppress it. He doesn’t like not having control over who and what gets him hot and bothered, so he can get very defensive very quickly over things like smells, textures, and who, if anyone, is allowed to touch him for what reasons.
Some of the other cons of his situation is that there are people that would immediately try to take advantage of him just on sight, so Sirran walks around with several glamour charms to mask some of his more obvious features, like skin colour, tail, and wings. Incubi are one of only a few goblins that possess naturally occurring wings, and of those even fewer have actual wing sacs on their backs.
Once again, though, the story isn’t actually about him. It’s about Kaz, a young human woman with a peculiar ability that comes to Edgeville seeking sanctuary and anonymity. She meets Sirran when an altercation with an Edgeville resident lands her a broken arm, and Sirran, being a nice watchman, tries to take her to a healer to get it fixed and she freaks out, demanding a sciencey-type doctor instead of magical healing. After some back-and-forth over the issue the healer agrees to only use non-magical remedies, sets Kaz’s arm, and since she’s unfamiliar with the area, Sirran helps her get home. Kaz comments on his tail, which has been broken and set to heal from an injury a few weeks ago. Realizing Kaz can see through his glamour even though all the glamours are functioning, Sirran figures out there’s more to her than just a human woefully out of place in a monster’s world.
